Binance Ex-CEO Changpeng Zhao Joins Pakistan's Crypto Council

Changpeng Zhao, the owner of the Binance cryptocurrency exchange, has been appointed as the Strategic Advisor for the Pakistan Crypto Council. The announcement was made by Pakistan's Ministry of Finance.

According to a press release, appointing Zhao as a strategic adviser was poised to reshape the global crypto landscape.

Pakistan Crypto Council CEO Saqib said that Pakistan is “opening its doors to the future of finance, and who better to guide us on this journey than Zhao — a pioneer who built the worlds largest crypto exchange and changed the way billions think about financial freedom.”

“Pakistan is a country of 240 million people, over 60 per cent of whom are under the age of 30. The potential here is limitless,” Zhao was quoted as saying in the press release.

Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, resigned as CEO of Binance in November 2023 following serious legal issues. He pleaded guilty to charges related to failing to maintain proper anti-money laundering measures at Binance. He faced $50 million personal fine. The current CEO of Binance is Richard Teng. He took over the role from Changpeng Zhao (CZ) in 2024 after Zhao stepped down.

Pakistan seeks to strengthen its presence in the global crypto market and initiate a new phase of economic transformation driven by blockchain technology.
